Finished Work: Web Presence

15 Apr
The Art Gallery Team initially intended to build a website to showcase student artwork, as well as professional artists visiting the school. As CreateAthon developed, teachers from other disciplines asked for an online presence to show what students had been working on in class. A web team was created to build a mockup for a website that would highlight positive experiences happening at Dalewood. Dalewood’s website will:
  •  Give teachers a place to show off their students’ work
  •  Allow for the art gallery to have an online presence showcasing the student’s work as well as that of visiting artists’
  •  Provide the community a way to connect with their local school and find ways to be involved with education

The gallery team proposes a dynamic setting for the art room that promotes inspirational energy for the students. The team’s design includes:
  • An area for a Personal Creative Space where students are able to work in quiet comfort. The space will include a cork board for posting inspirational items and storage shelving for the students.
  • A gallery space to display artwork students and visiting artists. The gallery will include movable partitions and pedestals along with sound-dampening wall panels.
  • An “I CAN” blackboard wall where students are able to post their ideas and feel empowered in their education.
  • Frosted glass panels for the garage door to let in more natural light.
  • Redesigned classroom rules integrating them into the space and making them more visible without being overbearing.
  • Rearranging the work area to maximize the learning space and instructor access.
  • Designating space for drying racks and extra storage spaces to house supplies and student work.

  • Connecting the students with a more simplistic logo.
  • Providing a user friendly logomark – easy in application with organization and color.
  • Motivating spirit in both academics and sports teams.
  • Building loyalty and ownership with the school and athletics.
  • Creating a brand that will live in the hearts and minds of Dalewood students.
Included below are a few photos of mockups and proposed projects from 24 hours of creative work. Does your local business have resources to plug into this team somehow? We would like the efforts of CreateAthon to continue by including even more community partners and supporters.

The Showcase Team set out to redesign/repurpose the existing architectural elements located in and around the front lobby to showcase student accomplishments, embrace school spirit and enhance the sense of community. This was accomplished by altering existing forms and establishing a tangible use for the objects and adding a positively themed system of signage.
  •  Enhance school pride by establishing positive energy through the use of school colors and newly designed school logo
  •  Create a physical space in which to display student work and achievements across the various disciplines
  •  Reinforce the positive theme of the environment with the addition of directional lighting
  •  Encourage students to be proactive through the use of interchangeable scholastic and athletic banners
  •  Create a more useful and visually interesting space for the students to enjoy

Finished Work: Student Reading Analysis Team

15 Apr
The Student Reading Analysis Team worked to promote reading among the Dalewood Middle Students and assist Principal Rodney Johnson in tracking student achievement and improvements by:
  • Creating a simple computer application that helps Principal Rodney Johnson individually track student’s reading levels.
  • Using the same computer application to provide an avenue to share student achievement and improvement with the school faculty, administration, and others.
  • Creating a competition for the students in which reading is encouraged and rewarded.
  • Creating posters that share Dalewood’s faculty reading inspirations with their students and create an environment of role models.
We’ve included a few photos of mockups and proposed projects from 24 hours of creative work. Does your local business have resources to plug into this team somehow? We would like the efforts of CreateAthon to continue by including even more community partners and supporters.
